Ageless Beauty

With 29 approaching quickly, it’s been impossible not to pick apart my face and imagine all the things I need to be doing to preserve my youth. We as women have been bombarded with beauty treatments to maintain the fountain of youth and images (photoshop enhanced, of course) of what we should look like. Now, enter Iris Apfel, the 90 years young woman who is the new face for MAC Cosmetics. Iris celebrates her age and every beautiful line on her face. Quite the fashionista, she’s uniquely Iris. I think she’s BEAUTIFUL! Don’t you?

I don’t just love St. Patrick’s Day, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE St. Patrick’s Day! It may be in part that my birthday falls on the day after (my most favorite holiday!), but I have always LOVED celebrating my Irish roots on this day. Since I’m in New York for St. Patrick’s Day, John and I celebrated last weekend with Shamrock Truffles (commonly known as Oreo Truffles – recipe below). This oh-so-delicious, yet 0h-so-ridiculously easy treat is equal to finding a pot of gold – a no bake, three ingredient dessert equals JACKPOT!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY (a little early), friends! Wear your best green…if you’re looking for ideas, you can always look back here.

Shamrock Truffles (Oreo Truffles)

36 Oreos (so maybe I did count them out)

1 Pkg Cream Cheese, softened

White Chocolate Bark, melted (follow instructions on packaging)

–Crush Oreos in a large mixing bowl; mix in softened cream cheese; roll into balls (about 46 bites of YUM).

–Dip in melted white chocolate. Use two forks to lift and drain chocolate.

–Place on parchment paper, add green sprinkles and refrigerate for at least one hour.

Proudly Introducing…

Meet Jack. Also, meet my rug, day two. As I was snapping a few photos Sunday night, Jack flew into the living room insisting on his own photo shoot. You must understand, taking a photo of Baby J is nearly impossible. His multi-colored eyes and severe underbite (not pictured), combined with his greyhound speed do not allow for a ton of frame worthy photos. Rewind to December 1, 2011: Jack received all of his advent calendar treats during our holiday photo shoot while I begged him to do all of his tricks and commands, which he did ONLY long enough to receive his treat. With each click of the camera, I watched my dreams of the perfect Christmas card end with a blurred vision of my little angel.

When all 8.6 pounds of this rambunctious, squirrel-chasing, hole-digging, anything-licking, everyone-loving mama’s boy posed himself perfectly and barked for my attention, there was no way I was passing on the opportunity to catch this sweet face. His quizzical expression sums his little personality up perfectly. While he may have nothing to do with food or fashion, he’s definitely family. Friends, Meet Jack. The cutest kid on the block.

Meanswear + Stripes + Comfort = Obsession! I’m even more intrigued by the story of Charles Philip, his love for a striped shirt and the journey to creating his line of shoes with his best pal Sheila Pitigala. It was actually John who purchased these for me – I hadn’t been introduced to these great shoes. Since then, I’ve added a few more to my wardrobe. You can read about (and shop) the Charles Philip Shanghai collection here.

Going “Home”

I’m heading to NYC next week to kick-off the last year of my twenties. I’m still in disbelief that I’m about to be 29!!! For me, there’s no other place more perfect to start the last year of this wonderful decade. New York will always be my “home” no matter where I go in life. Aside from the adrenaline rush I get from the hustle and bustle, I will most love indulging in some of my favorite city spots and spending time catching up with dear friends. John has been a bit concerned of whether I have intentions of returning since I’ve packed the largest suitcase we own. Though I spend great amounts of time selecting what items will go in my suitcase, I always overpack just in case I have a change of heart about what to wear. A few of my travel and accessory essentials are here…

Necklaces: Tiffany & Co., H&M (old), Stella & Dot (old) / Bracelets: David Yurman, Tory Burch (others old), Kate Spade, Stella & Dot (old), Alisa, Tiffany & Co. / Watches: Baume & Mercier – similar here, Michael Kors, Timex / Rings: Trina Turk (old), Kate Spade (old)/ Slippers: Burberry (old) / Purses: Louis Vuitton, Gucci / Parfume and Creme: Jo Malone / Sunglasses: Tiffany &Co.

Pucker Up

A trip to my grandmother’s house always guaranteed one thing…dessert! Usually, there was a variety to choose from, but for me, there were three choices that could turn any day into the perfect day. On birthdays, I was always gifted with a red velvet cake; a poundcake (and many other desserts) followed our Sunday dinners and a lemon ice box pie with no meringue could be made to order at a moment’s notice. My grandmother, Ma, could prepare a feast like no other. Each Sunday, she prepared a gracious meal for all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the preacher’s family and anyone else who would like to join us. My Ma taught me that cooking was about cooking with love, opening your home and enjoying the people you invited in to share a meal with. I’ve not attempted my Ma’s lemon ice box pie in years – mine has never tasted quite like hers. But I love all things lemon, and I recently found a quick and easy lemon tart recipe from Paula Deen that definitely cause me to pucker up with their tart lemon flavor! A delis treat that brought back special childhood memories.
