We decided on a last minute getaway this past weekend, and it was much needed for ALL of us. Some days, you just need a cozy hotel room, relaxation and room service to unwind and recharge. And as I’ve gotten “older” I am very thoughtful in how I pack for weekend escapes. I like clothes that don’t require a lot of fuss, and this romper is by far one of the easiest and most versatile pieces in my closet. The options to accessories are nearly endless.
And look at Baby J. You can tell he received puppy pampering at its finest over the weekend.

Truth: this outfit was inspired by the popular Netfilx series Orange is the New Black. It’s a fun twist on a show that’s just a little too serious for me.

I love summer. Despite the high temps and awful humidity, I really love summer. While I’d love to claim the Prada Double as the bag I’m currently toting, I’ll admit it’s simply a lust. But I do have some essentials for looking chic while praying for a cool breeze.
1. Prade Double Bag – My current obsession, and essential wish.
2. Essie Haute in the Heat – The name alone makes it a must…the great color is simply a bonus!
3. Jo Malone – Earl Grey & Cucumber – A light and refined summer scent.
4. Tory Burch Fedora – Because I love a fedora and I love Tory Burch. Perfect combo.
5. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish – Nothing makes your lips feel as lux as this scrub, which has become part of my night time routine.
6. Birkenstocks – I know. I’m shocked, too. I’ve actually pinched myself a few times. The 80’s had a comeback, why not something from the 90’s?
John and I took a long-weekend road trip to Rosemary Beach this weekend, and I didn’t realize how much a mini-vacation was just what I needed until my toes touched the sand. From great weather to fine food to market shopping, the weekend was absolutely perfect, and I am so glad we talked ourselves into driving South at the last minute.

**Apologies for the mid-morning update, but some of the pictures were not loading properly, and I was a bit excited about this mostly-Target ensemble. I must give credit to my Ma for this fashion lesson…as long as you’re wearing a great pair of shoes and carrying a nice “pocketbook,” the cost of the dress (or jeans and top here) doesn’t really matter.

Pastels have never been on my must-have list, but lately I’ve found myself gravitating toward the feminine color palate. In order to keep pastels age appropriate, couple them with a simple neutral (tan, black or grey) to break up the sugary sweet colors.

What does one do on a weekend with blue skies and 90 degree temperatures?
1. Grills Burgers and “Guitless” Fries – (sliced red potatoes, 1tsp olive oil, sea salt and black pepper – baked at 425 for 1/2 hour) with homemade sweet pickles (courtesy of Gaga)
2. Sunbathes on the deck (flip-flops: similar style here, Apple iPad; hat: Target)
3 & 4. Cools off after a music fest on the river with Bourbon Caramel Gingersnap Gelato
5. Whips up fresh guacamole with leftover avocados and fresh cilantro from the herb garden. Guacamole – two avocados (peeled, pitted and smashed), chopped cherry tomatoes (I used 1/2 cup), 3 tsp lemon juice (I was out of lime), 1 tsp garlic salt, black pepper to taste, 1/2 tsp Worcestershire, fresh cilantro
6. Preps an herb garden (pots: The Home Depot; chalkboard labels: Martha Stewart for Staples)
7. Arranges a bouquet from her favorite rose bushes
8. Smiles at the first hydrangea bloom of the year
9. Catches Baby Jack and J snoozing after a fun-packed weekend of yard work, planting a vegetable garden, cooking, baking, going to a music festival, seeing The Five Year Engagement with good friends, catching some sun and starting a new kettle bell workout.
