I love Saturdays when we’re home with few plans. We seem to stay on the go, which is also fun, but there’s something to be said about days when you can take your time reading the WSJ, drink multiple cups of coffee and enjoy a casual breakfast at the bakery.

Receiving a gift is always so exciting. Receiving a gift you truly love is simply heart touching. A dear friend was in New Orleans and found this dress and bought simply because she thought it “looked just like me.” I couldn’t agree more, and but I’m most thankful to have friends in my life who are so thoughtful. This little frock also makes me happy because it’s so ladylike, AND it makes me think of a wedding…cake, of course! Didn’t you see all the tiers of the dress. Ah, it really is a happy dress.

Dress: White House Black Market (gifted); Bag: Prada (also gifted from J for our 4th wedding anniversary); Shoes: Old Navy; Jewelry: Stella & Dot (old, similar here and here); Watch: Rolex; Sunglasses: Tiffany & Co.

Summer Textures

Here’s what you can count on for summertime weather in the South: HOT temps, HIGH humidity, and HEAVY rain showers. I spend most days praying for nothing higher than 90 degrees, low humidity and no rain since most of my work days are spent in and out of offices all across northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama. And while the heat and humidity often seems like my worst enemy, it’s really the cold that kills me. And by cold, I mean offices that I spend my time in each day. So, without making this a story where I complain about the bipolar temperatures I encounter every day, I’ll turn this into how much I love mixing textures – even in the summer months.

John and I took a long-weekend road trip to Rosemary Beach this weekend, and I didn’t realize how much a mini-vacation was just what I needed until my toes touched the sand. From great weather to fine food to market shopping, the weekend was absolutely perfect, and I am so glad we talked ourselves into driving South at the last minute.

Hole Punched

I picked up this little dress during my Spring visit to NYC at Mint, a favorite little spot in my old neighborhood, the Upper West Side. The popping cobalt color is one of my favorites, and the cut out design makes for a breezy summer dress. Feeling the need for a little Vitamin C, I added citrus accessories for a final punch.

Fresh Mint

Pastels have never been on my must-have list, but lately I’ve found myself gravitating toward the feminine color palate. In order to keep pastels age appropriate, couple them with a simple neutral (tan, black or grey) to break up the sugary sweet colors.
